The next stop on our Alexandria tour is the port city of Taposiris Magna, located 45 km west of Alexandria and on the narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and Lake Mareotis. It is believed by some to be the burial place of the Egyptian Pharaoh Cleopatra VII and her lover, the Roman General Marc Anthony.

The community of Taposiris Magna was established as a port for Lake Mareotis by the early 3rd century BC, and numerous glass workshops have been discovered along its wharf. The main temple ruins of Taposiris are those dedicated to Osiris and Isis, and they are located only about 500 meters from the Tower of Abusir.
The evidence for connection with Cleopatra and Marc Anthony is a little slim, primarily because it hasn't been published yet: but it's definitely tantalizing!
