In Nahuatl Chichimec means "barbarians", which gives you some idea of what the conquering Aztecs thought of them, but despite the Aztecs, and a hundred years later the Spanish conquest, the ruins are relatively intact (restored of course) and open to the public. In this new photo essay, contributing writer Nicoletta Maestri describes her recent visit to the architecture and history of these ruins.
