Wednesday June 20, 2007
This week's walking tour is of the ancient Greek classical site of Olympia,
Olympia, Greece.

which was the original location of the Olympic Games upon which our modern games are based. Olympia was first excavated in the mid-19th century by the German archaelogist Ernst Curtius.

Photos for the walking tour were provided by Aschwin Prein (with captions from me), and stops on the tour include the Temples of Zeus and Hera, the Stadium, the Greek baths, and the Workshop of Pheidias, and even the Roman villa of the Emperor Nero.
