Risk Conversion

Support Your SWA

From Brian Kenny, for About.com

Oct 12 2003
This week, Brian Kenny, editor of the fabulous free to subscribers not-for-profit newsletter on southwestern archaeology news and information Got Caliche?, takes the pulpit for a plea for support.

The United States government is issuing currency beginning with the $20 note on October 9, 2003. The redesigned currency is safer, smarter and more secure.

Here's the problem with the new currency issue -- shedding the risk creates a market timing problem. We suspect that you could actually have up to five old $20 dollar bills in your purse or wallet -- that's five time the extra risk and five times more insecurity than you really want or deserve. Now ask yourself: wouldn't you prefer some sweet hedge, some relief from that old, insecure currency?

www.swanet.org, a 501c3 not for profit organization, wants to help, and we've devised an innovative solution: for a limited time this Fall, we will accept your five $20s, and in aggregate, stream this old currency into theme-focused machine-assisted technologies and innovative human endeavor. This highly focused recycling of your currency insecurities results in the staged creation of data, information and new knowledge, goods that we give back to you in value-added daily installments. As fast as you can shed, we can convert your risk aversion to knowledge up to three hundred sixty five times! And you get a tax deduction to boot!

Please make your financial support pledge this week via e-mail, then send SWA your a tax-deductible donation before 31 OCT 2003. Even if you suffer from high insecurity threshold (IT-h), SWA would still love to hear from you. If mailing your old $20 bills seems a bit risky, hide them in a cardboard mailing sandwich which you design creatively. Or better yet, deposit those bills for bank destruction and write a check, and we still will do the totemic knowledge creation and value activities for you. Mail your insecurities -- and hopes for more goods and betterment -- to Southwestern Archaeology, Inc., P.O. Box 61203 Phoenix AZ, USA 85082-1203. Make your check payable to "Southwestern Archaeology Inc" and write "501c3 donation" on the memo line. SWA's Internal Revenue Service tax Employee Identification Number is: EIN 86-0907590.

Seriously, www.swanet.org expenses are covered thru the end of the year. The 501c3 runs out of money on 31 December 2003 (zero balance). This means fund raising or dissolution.

Past fundraisers consisted of e-mail requests to service subscribers "flogging" them to make a cash donation and take a tax deduction. At present, SWA needs to raise approximately $8000.00 to operate in 2004. SWA would like to simplify the process this year with a proposed schedule for tax-deductible donations:

  • $500.00 : for crm business that have enjoyed and benefitted from the SWA job posting service
  • $500.00 - $250.00 : for other organizations and institutions that want to contribute support to SWA's efforts
  • $100.00 - $50.00 : for individual professional archaeologists who support SWA
  • $50.00 - $35.00 : for avocational archaeologists who enjoy our newsletter services
  • $25.00 : for student archaeologists who like the job postings and the newsletter
  • $00.00 : send words of encouragement if you cannot contribute cash Please make your financial support pledge this week via e-mail, then send SWA your a tax-deductible check before 31 OCT 2003. If you have your own dollar value in mind for donation, SWA still would love to hear from you.
Please note our status: SWA is a 501c3 (not for profit) corporation. SWA's Internal Revenue Service tax Employee Identification Number is: EIN 86-0907590

    Thank You!
