Definition: French civil engineer, geologist and archaeologist Jacques de Morgan was the director of Antiquities in Egypt during the later 19th century, and excavated at Memphis and Dashur, providing excellent drawings of many of the Egyptian pyramids. He also worked at Stonehenge, and Persepolis, among other sites in his long career.
