Definition: British archaeologist and the first woman ever elected to full professorship at Cambridge, Dorothy Garrod did most of her excavation work in the middle east, and is best known for her work at Gilbraltar, Western Judaea, Southern Kurdistan and Mount Carmel.
Garrod was most influential at Cambridge, where her election to Disney professor in 1939 (the first female to be so designated) encouraged the admittance of women as full members there in 1948.
