Definition: During her career, British archaeologist Jacquetta Hawkes firmly believed that archaeology was headed down the wrong path by over-emphasizing the pure science aspect. Although a wide-ranging researcher and writer, she is probably best known today for her popular science efforts in archaeology, including The First Great Civilizations: Life in Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, and Egypt, The Atlas of Ancient Archaeology, and The Quest for Love.
