Michael E. Moseley

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Michael E. Moseley is an American archaeologist whose 40+ year career in archaeology has been concentrated primarily on the archaeology of Peru, including Inca societies and their precursors. Moseley's most famous contribution (to date) has been the early investigations of the complex prehistoric coastal societies of Peru, which he argued were supported by fishing and gathering, not agriculture. At the time it was not thought possible that such complex societies could be supported without agriculture.
