Archaeology Book Catalogue

Every year there are uncounted books published in and about archaeology and archaeologists. Here is a sample of the English-language archaeological books that have crossed my desk in the last few years.

The Study of Archaeology
This group of new books includes texts that are directed towards gaining a broad understanding of archaeology, such as introductory texts and books for children, books that examine issues across a planet-wide range of societies, and theoretical books building underpinnings for all archaeological research.

• Introductions to Archaeology
• Theory of Archaeology
• Cross Cultural Books
• Children's Books
• Cultural Resource Management

Regions of the World
This category of the catalogue is set up to describe books that are on special regions of the world, countries or adjacent areas. At the moment, this category will point up the shallowness of the range of books I've seen to date; the list is weak in everything except the archaeology of the Americas. Look for that to change in the coming months.

• Asia
• Africa
• Americas
• Europe
• Near East

Cultures and Topics of Interest
While not the most precise category, Topical Studies seems to come close to an appropriate title for this miscellany of books.

• Classical Greece and her Forebears
• Egypt and Egyptology
• Rock Art

Reference
This category of books includes reference works for all of us archaeo-nuts, including encyclopedias and overviews, biographies and histories of archaeology, and travel references.

• Biographies and History
• Encyclopedias
• Travel Guides
