George F. Bass

Definition: The "Father of Nautical Archaeology," George Bass has spent his career furthering the cause of underwater archaeology, excavating some pretty interesting sites, including Uluburun and Gelidonya shipwrecks, and founding the Institute for Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M university, where he continues to teach and do research.
