Definition: Anthropologist Raymond Firth, a New Zealander, concentrated his research, perhaps not terribly surprisingly, on the Maori peoples of New Zealand. Although primarily interested in religion, he is perhaps best known among archaeologists for his studies of chiefdoms in Polynesia, We the Tikopia.
