Hen Domen Castle

Definition: Norman castle in Wales of the motte and bailey type, built between 1070 and 1074 AD by Roger de Montgomery. A motte is a conical earthen mound on which the castle sat, the bailey is an outer earthen bank with a wooden palisade.
