Definition: Bohemian-born physical anthropologist, Hrdlicka was a tremendously influential scientist at the Smithsonian Institution, who argued for years against the great antiquity of man in the Americas. When museum curator Jesse Figgins asked him to come see the Folsom, New Mexico site, which had stone tools in association with extinct mammoth bones, he became convinced. One of the early proponents of the Bering Strait entrada theory.
