Definition: Archaeologist and paleontologist Glynn Isaac was a highly influential archaeologist and paleontologist. He worked primarily in Africa, and is known for his work on Koobi Fora research project in Kenya, as well as Olorgesailie and other ancient hominid sites. Isaac was especially interested in experimental replication of stone tools and the notion that the evolution of human intelligence was a result of social cooperation, that is, by food sharing behavior by hominids. He had a compelling interest in public archaeology, and his influence is perhaps best felt in the legions of students he mentored during his teaching career at the University of California at Berkeley and Harvard.
