Definition: The ancient city of Jerusalem, religious center for three of the world's major religious, was first substantially occupied during the Early Bronze Age (3rd millennium BC). Said to have been conquered by David about 1000 BC, it was burned by the Romans in 70 AD and rebuilt as Aelia Capitolina. Excavated by Kathleen Kenyon, among others.
