Definition: Archaeological project begun in the 1960s by several universities and led by the Middle East Technical University in Turkey ahead of the planned construction of the Keban Reservoir on the Euphrates River. One of the earliest examples of salvage archaeology; but more than that, the Keban project has continued to produce considerable archaeological information concerning life on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and throughout Anatolia.
