Definition: Earliest known sedentary culture of Nubia (present day Sudan), dated to about 8000 years ago. The people hunted, fished, and raised cattle; this culture was the first in Africa to produce ceramics, and there is evidence in the Khartoum Mesolithic sites for trade with Upper Egyptian societies of the time. Followed by the A Group cultures, etc.
