Khorsabad

Definition:
Capital city of the Assyrian King Sargon II (721-705 BC) in present-day Iraq, excavated by James Henry Breasted in the 1920s and Paul Botta in the 1870s. The interesting thing about Khorsabad (called during Sargon II's time Dur-Sharrukin) is that it was apparently never really used; when Sargon II died, the capital city wasn't finished, and his son Sennacherib moved the capital back to Nineveh.
