Definition: An archaeological site on the Illinois River in Illinois, the American midwest, the Koster site is one of the first archaeological sites which recognized the potential for deeply buried occupations. A total of 26 different occupations were identified at Koster, beginning with the Archaic period of about 7500 BC, and ending with the Koster farmstead.
