Definition:
Kroeber was another one of those researchers who had an enormous impact on archaeology, even though it was a relatively minor interest of his. Kroeber was primarily an ethnographer and linguist, and he spent most of his career studying Native American groups in California. Archaeological components of his work included the further development of seriation techniques, and most importantly, an emphasis on the cultural aspects of archaeological sites; most archaeologists of the time were very much classifiers.
