Definition:
Bishop de Landa is known as both the zealot Franciscan friar who came to the New World in 1549 and burned as many Maya codices as he could get his hands on; and, ironically enough, as a source of ethnographic information on the Maya language and culture in a book called "Relacion de las Cosas Yucatan".
