Victorian age British archaeologist, Layard was trained as a lawyer. He actively sought Nineveh (and got it wrong first), and although excavated over the length of his career at several Mesopotamian sites, is primarily known as the discoverer of Nineveh, the modern site of Kuyunjik in Iraq.
