Father John MacEnery [1796-1841]

Definition:
Father John MacEnery was a Roman Catholic priest in the early 19th century, who excavated in the ancient cave site called Kent's Cavern in Torquay, Devonshire, prior to the 1860s William Pengelly excavations. MacEnery was well aware of the antiquity of the cave; and although his reports were ignored at the time (1825-1829), Pengelly did publish his work posthumously.
