Kulturkreislehre Movement

Definition: Austrian archaeologist Oswald F.A. Menghin was the head of the University of Vienna Prehistorical Institute during the Nazi occupation. Some of his published works during the period are obviously anti-Semitic in tone; during the war he was the Minister of Education and was at least politically responsible for the introduction of quotas of Jewish persons allowed to study. Never indicted as a war criminal (he is described as "willfaehrigen Wissenschafter", more or less an intellectual collaborator of the Nazis), Menghin emigrated to Argentina, where he successfully applied the Kulturkreislehre school to South American archaeology.
