<Back to Last Page>     <Full Glossary>

Definition: German historian Eduard Meyer was a faculty member at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Universität in Berlin, and published an astounding range of materials on the history of antiquity from the oriental and occidental worlds, including important works on Egypt, Rome and the Americas. A hyper-generalist, or universal historian, Meyer was extremely well-read, and is probably best known for the development of the standard chronology for Egyptian history, used up until very recently.
