On big projects, field supervisors and crew chiefs are needed to help supervise field technicians, and generally take more responsibility for the work being provided.

Duties:
The field supervisor is a crucial and varied role. Think Sallah in the Indiana Jones movies. At the least you supervise field crew, take notes, conduct artifact analysis, take care of field logistics, speak to the public, and basically assist the principal investigator as she or he sees fit.

Usually seasonal, occasionally full-time, occasionally with benefits, but not often

Relatively numerous; most medium-sized archaeology firms require one or more field supervisors.
Education Level Required:
BA in Anthropology; extensive experience as a field crew
