Zooarchaeologist

Description: Analyze animal bone, bone fragments, and bone artifacts recovered from archaeological sites
Alternate Titles: Faunal analyst, archaeozoologist, bioarchaeologist, bioanthropologist
Duties: Examine animal bones or bone fragments, identify the species, identify disease or evidence of butchering, write report
Locations: Pretty much everywhere
Job Type: Generally freelance, although full time positions may be found at companies specializing in technical analytical support for archaeologists
Availability of Employment: Fulltime positions are rare and generally sited with technical support companies; freelance opportunities are easier to find with networking.
Education Level Required: Usually an advanced degree in anthropology with an emphasis in faunal analysis is required; but people with biology degrees may also specialize in archaeological faunal analysis.
