Definition: L'Anse aux Meadows is the name of an archaeological site on the coast of Newfoundland, Canada which is the only commonly accepted evidence for the landing of Norse marauders led by Leif Eiriksson (or Erikson).
The site was identified and excavated in the 1960s by Helge Ingstad and his wife Anne Stine Ingstad. The site is a little village of three timber-and-sod longhouses and five smaller buildings, and it lasted between about 3-10 years before the Norse left.
