History is the study of dead people.
Harvard historian Jill Lepore presented the lecture on history at the 2007 Ignoble Awards last year, all of which appeared in the last issue of the Annals of Improbable Research for 2007. Presenters were required to provide "a complete technical description in TWENTY-FOUR (24) SECONDS and then a clear summary that anyone can understand, in SEVEN (7) WORDS."
