Acanceh (pronounced Ah-Cahn-KAY) is a small Mayan site in the Yucatán peninsula, about 15 miles southeast of Merida. The ancient site is now covered by the modern town of the same name.

In the Yucatec Maya language, Acanceh means “the groaning, or dying deer”. The site, which in its heyday probably reached an extension of 3 square km, included almost 300 structures. Of these, only the two main buildings are restored and open to the public: the Pyramid and the Palace of the Stuccoes.
