Ann Axtell Morris [1900-1945]

Definition: Ann Axtell was born in 1900 in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Smith in 1922, studied archaeology in France, and married Southwestern archaeologist Earl Halstead Morris in 1923. They excavated in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico's Yucatan for many years. Ann Axtell Morris is best known for her copies of ancient Maya murals at the Temple of the Warriors, Chichén Itzá, and two books for a popular audience, "Digging in the Yucatan" and "Digging in the Southwest." She passed away in 1945.
