Definition: American ethnoarchaeologist Susan Kent first established a considerable reputation working in the American Southwest, most importantly on irrigation techniques of the pueblo peoples. Starting in the late 1980s, she moved her interests to southern Africa, where she investigated both ethnographic studies of the shift from nomadism to sedentism; and the Middle Stone Age, investigating problems of social behavior and gender. She was a longtime faculty member at Old Dominion University in Virginia.
