By , About.com Guide

Definition: American archaeologist Deborah M. Pearsall has dedicated much of her professional life to the study of paleoethnobotany, specifically the examination of opal phytoliths in archaeological contexts. She also used those data to examine the origins of agriculture in the western hemisphere. Located at the University of Missouri, Pearsall maintains an online Phytolith Database, which grew out of a three-year study "Phytoliths in the Flora of Ecuador."
