Definition: American archaeologist David Hurst Thomas is probably best known for his series of books called Columbian Consequences, describing the effect of the Spanish and Mexican exploration and colonization of California and Florida on the native peoples. Archaeologists of the recent generations also rely heavily on his standard statistics text, Figuring Anthropology. Educated at the University of California at Davis, Thomas is currently curator of Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History.
