Thucydides [ca. 460-400 BC]

Definition: The written work of Greek scholar and historian Thucydides has been an invaluable resource to archaeologists interested in the history of Greece and its colonization of the Mediterrean Sea. His book The History of the Peloponnesian War was written about 431 BC, and was based on his personal experiences during the war.
