Definition: Margaret Towle was a pioneer ethnobotanist, who in 1961 published the classic book called The Ethnobotany of Precolumbian Peru, providing information on the plants used by cultures of the north coast. She was educated at Columbia University, and received her PhD in 1958, entitled "The Ethnobotany of Pre-Columbian Peru as Evidenced by Archaeological Materials." I can't find anything else on her, so it is possible that like many women of her generation, she dropped out of sight after publishing her dissertation.
