Definition: Greek archaeologist Christos Tsountas was a classical archaeologist who followed Heinrich Schliemann and completed much of the most important investigations at the site of Mycenae, including identifying the palace. He conducted surveys of the Greek mainland, identifying more Mycenaean sites and early Bronze Age sites; and excavated numerous sites such as Sesklo and Aghios Andreas. Tsountas is often credited as the codifier of the Cycladic period.
