Definition: British archaeologist Peter Ucko has concentrated his career on the study of images and artwork at Neolithic sites; and has been the center of some controversies, concerning his attacks on the Goddess movement of Marija Gimbutas, and his support of the boycott on South African academic research during Apartheid. Trained at University College London, Ucko is currently professor of comparative archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL.
