George Clapp Vaillant [1901-1945]

Definition: American archaeologist George C. Vaillant worked in central America, primarily on Aztec and Maya sites. Vaillant was educated at Harvard, and worked at the archaeological sites of Chichen Itza, Ticoman, Zacatenco, and El Arbolillo, among other sites in his brief but prodigious career. He was associated with the American Museum of Natural History, Yale and Columbia universities. Vaillant also had a diplomatic career, acting as US State Department Cultural Relations Officer to Peru and the Chief Representative of the Office of War Information in Madrid during World War II.
