Definition: American archaeologist Barbara Voorhies is best known for her work on the shell mound archaic of coastal Mexico, at sites such as Cerro de las Conchas, Chiapas, and Chantuto phase sites such as Vuelta Limon and Tlachuachero. Educated at Tufts and Yale universities, Voorhies taught at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the University of California at Santa Barbara for nearly thirty years, where she is currently professor emerita.
