Definition: British paleontologist Peter Whybrow was influential in investigations of early man in the middle east, particularly the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, where he found and investigated the site of Ad Dabtiyah, a Late Miocene site (6-8 million years ago). At Ad Dabtiyah, Whybrow found and described Helioanthropus leakeyi, a very early human ancestor. He conducted work in Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Pakistan, in addition to Qatar and the UAE, and was instrumental in identifying this region as important to deep past. Whybrow was associated with the British Natural History Museum.
