Rick Kanaski, I’m the Regional Historic Preservation Officer for Region 4 of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Region 4 covers the southeast quadrant of the United States, Puerto Rico and the American Virgin Islands. I guess the question is what does the SAAs mean to me? I see the SAA as kind of a place where you get glimpses of what other professionals as well as their students are doing in the field, sometimes quite exciting, sometimes a little on the boring side, and a little bit repetitive, but what I try to take back from that is new perspectives as well as possible approaches that I can use and apply to sites and to other kinds of historic properties that I aid in the management of in the region.
