Definition: The Acoma is the name of a Native American pueblo culture of the American southwest, which arose at the end of the Great Drought in the 14th and 15th centuries AD. Prehistorically, the Acoma were located in the Cibola region, along the Rio Grande River in New Mexico and into southern Arizona. The Acoma people are still an important part of the culture of the American southwest today. Acoma Pueblo (called Sky City) is located in northern New Mexico on the top of a high sandstone mesa.
