Almoravid Dynasty

Definition: The Almoravid Dynasty was a Berber empire located in North Africa during the 11th and 12th centuries AD. The Almoravid rulers, who were part of the Islamic civilization, eventually controlled all of the Sahara Desert as well as the regions now included in Morocco, Algeria, and Spain, and held powerful trade connections to subSaharan Africa as well. The Almoravid capital city was Marrakesh, founded in 1062 AD.
