American Bottom (United States)

Definition: The American Bottom is the name given to the segment of the Mississippi River Valley in Illinois in the central United States, where the Missouri and Illinois rivers flow into the Mississippi. The American Bottom was the center of the Mississippian culture during the 11th century AD, specifically at Cahokia and its outliers.
