The archaeological ruins of Xunantunich, located in west Central Belize represent a Late and Terminal Classic period occupation (ca. AD 650-1000). The Castillo, seen in the background of this photograph, is one of the largest Maya buildings in Belize, more than 40 meters in height. The site is characterized by colonnaded platform mounds, causeways, ball courts.
