Definition: The Cajamarca Culture was a small polity in the Peruvian highlands, ca. AD 500-1450, when it was conquered and became part of the Inca empire. The Cajamarca culture was at its height about AD 500-1000, and is famous for beautiful ceramic pottery. Cajamarca's other claim to fame is it was the location of the capture of Inca Atahualpa by Pizarro in AD 1532.
