Definition:

The town of Capernaum is mentioned several times in the New Testament of the Judeo-Christian bible, as the home of several apostles; also mentioned in other historical documents of the time. The site is located on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

Archaeological evidence indicates that Capernaum was founded in the second century BC. Capernaum was abandoned by the 11th century AD, and its ruins rediscovered as those of Capernum in the 19th century by Eduard Robinson.
