Casimiroid Culture

Definition: The Casimiroid culture is an Archaic period culture of the Caribbean Sea in Central America, with the type site found on the island of Casimira in the Dominican Republic. The Casimiroid culture dates between 6,900 to 4,500 years ago and is also found at sites such as Mona Island and the Cerillo site both in Puerto Rico. It is co-eval and slightly earlier than the Ortoiroid culture. Excavations on Mona Island have been carried out by Ovidio Davila.
