Castel del Monte (Italy)

Definition: The World Heritage site Castel del Monte is an Italian medieval period castle, built by Frederick II between AD 1229 and 1249. Using precise mathematical and astronomical alignments, the architect for the castle included elements from European and Islamic cultures, designing an octagonal structure.
